Organizations launch online resource site to help newsrooms diversify staffs and help journalists of color find new roles
TOLEDO, Ohio — February 14, 2022 — The Diversity Pledge Institute (DPI), a non-profit organization committed to helping newsrooms achieve outstanding results in diversity, inclusion and retention, is excited to announce a new partnership with Editor & Publisher (E&P), a trusted resource for news media leadership.
The organizations will provide training, mentoring and job placement services for journalists of color, including imminent and new graduates. Together they will also provide resources and coaching to guide employers in recruiting and retaining diverse talent. E&P has also launched a new resource site called “Diversity Spotlight” that features exclusive editorial content and links to all relevant resources and stories to help publishers find relevant content in one location and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
“Thanks to E&P we’re placing some of journalism’s leading diverse voices in front of an audience capable of the strongest impact: the editors and publishers that run our newsrooms,” said Larry Graham, founder and executive director of The Diversity Pledge Institute. “We’re all excited about the possibilities of this partnership leading to tangible and replicable outcomes surrounding DEI strategies in collegiate and professional newsrooms.”
Along with training and job placement, the program also seeks to build awareness of the resources available for journalists of color and hiring managers while also highlighting the importance of creating diverse, equitable and inclusive newsrooms.
“We have been working with The Diversity Pledge Institute since its launch and cannot think of a better partner to help us work with the industry to achieve true diversity, equity and inclusion within any news publishing operation,” said Mike Blinder, publisher of E&P. “Our goal is to be an essential resource where any news publisher can go, regardless of media or size, in order to gain the information and resources they need to achieve these essential goals.”
E&P and The Diversity Pledge Institute are seeking additional funding to support more work together, including training from The Poynter Institute, credits for job postings on the Media Job Board for newsrooms seeking diverse candidates and resume coaching.
